Construction of the new Shoppers and extension of parking lot.
Shoppers Drug Mart is finally coming to Picton.
Loblaws is building a 27,000 square foot Shoppers just east of its No Frills store on Picton Main Street. It opens later this year.
“This site will follow our typical prototype size and will feature a Pharmacy Care Clinic,” A spokesperson said in a statement. “Further details will be released closer to the opening date.”
The build comes 20 years after Shoppers proposed to develop an empty lot on the corner of Main and Washburn streets in 2007. The plan was a casualty of the global economic turndown in 2008.
In addition to the store build, the parking lot to the western edge of the property line is under expansion.
The Shoppers build is just the first phase of a multi-unit development. In addition to the new pharmacy, Choice Properties REIT (the Loblaws Real Estate company) plans a multi-unit retail building west of George Wright Boulevard.
In its Zoning By-law Amendment Application, Choice Properties said specific uses could include health and personal care retail; a personal service shop; a medical or dental clinic, or any other commercial enterprise. Timelines and specifics for the second phase of retail development are as yet unknown.
