It was an ice show 60 years in the making.
The Prince Edward County Skating Club paid tribute to six decades of figure skating in our community Sunday with their annual spring carnival. “Skating Through Time” featured local skaters performing their best spins, spirals, and Salchows to timely tunes such as Jim Croce’s “Time in a Bottle” and Cyndi Lauper’s “Time after Time.”
The club got its start in 1965. Skate Canada sanctioned the local program with support from clubs in Belleville and Trenton. The local skating club offers a multitude of programming all including Pre-CanSkate, CanSkate, Rising Stars and StarSkate and every member participated Sunday.
PECSC members Vada McGinnis, Evie McDonald, Grace Acorn, Julia Cranshaw, Mercy Norris, Madelyn Koopmans, Abby St. Germain, Molly Carroll, Emily Wager and Alicia Rankin offered freeskate and artistic solos to the appreciative crowd.
In addition to class performances and club solos, Sunday’s ice show featured two special guest synchro teams and two time Ontario champion Natalie Roccatani.
The Quinte region’s newest Pre-Novice synchro club Fire and Ice opened the show and Ice Wine, the County’s Adult II Synchro team, delighted spectators with their Jody Jones-choreographed moves.
Representing the Toronto Cricket Skating and Curling Club, Ms. Roccatani wowed the crowd with solos she’s demonstrated at three Skate Canada championships.
