A pair of Wellington Dukes and a Prince Edward County native will be putting their best skate forward this weekend in Etobicoke in a bid to represent Canada at next month’s World Jr. A Challenge tournament.

Wellington Dukes forward Ben Evans and defenceman Mason Snell will join North York Rangers netminder and Bloomfield native Jett Alexander at the four-day Team Canada East training camp set to get underway on Saturday at the Master Care Centre

The players were among the 40 selected from the CJHL’s five eastern Junior A leagues: the Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League (NOJHL), the Ontario Junior Hockey League (OJHL), Central Canada Hockey League (CCHL), Ligue de hockey junior du Québec (LHJQ), and Maritime Hockey League (MHL).

The team’s staff (which includes Trenton Golden Hawks Coach and General Manager Marty Abrams) will use the camp as a final opportunity to evaluate the prospects before selecting their roster for the Team Canada East squad that will suit up at 2017 World Junior A Challenge in Truro, Nova Scotia from Dec. 10-16.

Aiden Girduckis, a former Wellington Duke who now skates for the Carleton Place Canadiens, was also named to the 40 player evaluation camp.

Since coming to the Dukes from the Ottawa 67’s in early October, Evans has been a great playmaker, picking up 14 helpers to go along with four goals in just 16 games.

Snell has provided Wellington with puck moving ability and served as a quarterback to run the team’s powerplay since being dealt from the Whitby Fury to Wellington late last month.

In nine games with Wellington, Snell has three goals and two assists.

Alexander has the lion’s share of starts for his Rangers squad this season and is currently sporting a 9-6-0 record with a 1.98 goals against average and a save percentage of .934.

Once selected, Team Canada East will be part of a six team tournament that also includes entries from Western Canada, Russia, Switzerland, the United States and the Czech Republic.
