Each week, the Gazette looks back on stories from the past. Here is what happened this week, by year…

1912:

• The Gazette is moving. In the future, we are to occupy the rear half of the Oddfellow’s Block, ground floor.
• Invitations are out for the Prince Edward Old Boys’ 12th annual At-Home on Thursday evening.
• The new canning factory in Northport for the coming season’s operations, under J. Laing Stocks, is starting to look like the real thing.

1952:

• Mrs. G.S. Duncan, Queen Street, was hostess on Monday afternoon for the annual meeting of Group 3 of the W.A. of the United Church. Twenty-five members were present.
• Mrs. P.G. DeNike entertained members of the Home Interest Club, where the program was a most enjoyable one. Music was featured and consisted of two vocal numbers by Mrs. John Mallory.
• Cpl. Francis McKenna, R.C.A.F., following his return from a trip to Japan and Korea, is spending two weeks vacation with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. A. McKenna.

1972:

• A late report on the Agnes Lederman benefit bonspiel shows that a total of $778 has now been raised.
• The January meeting of Gilbert’s Mills Women’s Institute was held at the home of Mrs. H. Cross with 15 members and visitors present.
• There were seventeen present for the inaugural class in art at Milford hall last week. Many find it a fascinating and rewarding pastime. Mrs. Roger Greig is the instructress.

1982:

• A fawn spotted in the icy water of Picton Bay was rescued because of he concern of a county resident. Fred Trumble, R.R. 4, Picton saw the fawn swimming about 150 yards offshore.
• Cold temperatures hampered firefighters efforts to contain a blaze which substantially damaged the home and completely destroyed the barn of Wilbur King, Bloomfield, Wednesday morning.
• A proposal to turn 16 acres of sub-marginal agricultural land at Point Petre in Athol Township into a recreation facility has been given initial backing by township council.
