The Gazette is seeking an experienced journalist to manage the news desk in a thriving print and digital weekly community newspaper. Established in 1830, and independently owned and operated, the Picton Gazette is Canada’s oldest weekly and Prince Edward County’s newspaper of record. It has a print readership of 27,000 and a further 20,000 in digital. We are expanding into a sister site called Picton Life, aimed outside The County.
The ideal candidate is committed to the values of journalism and community news, experienced in print, digital and social media publication, and able to work flexible, full-time hours with some evening and weekend commitments. This is an in-person position. Residency in or near Prince Edward County is required.
The News Editor handles municipal and provincial news and politics, community news, police and court briefs, and publishes key stories to both the website and social media daily.
Qualifications
Compensation: The base salary for this role ranges from $47,000 to $57,000 per year. Placement within this range depends on the level of experience, responsibilities, technical skills and alignment with the role requirements. This is a permanent, full-time position.
