An initial delivery of fifty lasted five minutes.
Picton Home Hardware Building Centre owner Adam Busscher and Library CEO Barb Sweet were posing in front of the Picton Branch Library for a photo. A resident asked about the Main Street flag display.
Mr. Busscher explained the Library was selling large Canadian flags for just $10, well below the cost to Home Hardware to supply them. The red and whites are 27”by 54.”
“Come in and get yourself one!” invited Mr. Busscher.
“$10? For sure,” said the passerby, turning up the library steps.
And with that, the first sale in the unofficial Rally around the Canadian Flag campaign was done.
Resident Judith van Bastelaar approached Mr. Busscher about a possible low cost flag program involving the Picton Branch Library to help promote Canadian pride during the tariff wars with the U.S.
“We are going to be supplying the flags below cost, and we are also supplying the no-barrier flags and the mini flags for free,” Mr. Busscher said. “We’re excited to get as many Canadian flags out there into the community as we can, and show our pride and resilience as we all move forward in these times.”
Mr. Busscher plans to restock the Library when supplies run low to a maximum of 250 flags.
