Vital services for seniors

The Prince Edward County Community Care for Seniors Association is a vital organization dedicated to enhancing the quality of life for seniors in Prince Edward County, Ontario. Established in 1977, Community Care provides a variety of services designed to support seniors’ independence, well-being, and engagement within the community. Here are some key services we offer:

One of the flagship services provided by the association is the Meals on Wheels program. This service delivers hot, nutritious meals to seniors who may have difficulty preparing food themselves. Meals are delivered by volunteers, who also provide a friendly visit and check-in for those who might be socially isolated. This service not only ensures that seniors receive balanced meals but also contributes to their emotional and social well-being by maintaining regular contact with volunteers.

Transportation can be a significant challenge for seniors, especially in rural areas like Prince Edward County. To address this, Community Care offers a transportation service that helps seniors get to medical appointments and do essential shopping. This service is crucial in maintaining seniors’ independence, allowing them to access essential services and remain engaged in the community. Volunteer drivers provide door-to-door service, ensuring seniors have a safe and reliable means of transportation.

To address isolation and promote social interaction, Community Care organizes a variety of social and recreational programs.  We call these “Active Living Programs”. These include exercise classes, educational workshops, and social gatherings that encourage seniors to stay active and connected with their peers. By participating in these programs, seniors can enhance their physical health, learn new skills, and build meaningful relationships.

Community Care also offers assistance with home maintenance and minor repairs, helping seniors to live safely and comfortably in their own homes. Services can include tasks like yard work, snow shovelling, and minor home repairs. By providing this support, Community Care enables seniors to maintain their independence and live in a secure environment.

Recognizing the important role that caregivers play, we provide resources and support for those caring for their older relatives or friends. This includes access to information, referrals to support groups, and respite services, which offer caregivers a much-needed break from their responsibilities.

For seniors facing complex challenges, Community Care offers client intervention and assistance services. This program helps seniors navigate the health and social services systems, providing support with accessing benefits, filling out forms, and connecting with other community resources.

Overall, The Prince Edward County Community Care for Seniors Association plays a crucial role in supporting the aging population by providing a comprehensive range of services. Through their dedicated efforts, they help seniors maintain their independence, health, and connection to the community, ensuring that they can enjoy a high quality of life.  To find out more see www.communitycareforseniors.org, email info@communitycareforseniors.org or stop in at 74A King Street in Picton.
