DESIRÉE DECOSTE

Spirits were bright at the Wellings of Picton on Wednesday as staff and residents presented the Prince Edward County Memorial Hospital Foundation (PECMHF) with a holiday gift of $6,265.
The funds were raised at the Wellings of Picton’s third annual, but first online, Making Spirits Bright Christmas Bazaar that was online from Nov. 8 to Dec. 5. Due to COVID-19 the Wellings of Picton were unable to host an in-person bazaar this year so the decision was made to host an online auction instead.
Online auction items included iPad raffle tickets, a bake sale and a white elephant table. This years results from the online auction are better by $2,000 than the results of the previous two years.
Rachel Henry, general manager of the Wellings of Picton, sincerely thanks the community for supporting their first-ever online auction and extends heartfelt gratitude to the residents who helped organize and undertook this festive event.
“We are so thrilled,” Henry expressed. “This is to-date the most the Wellings has raised during the holidays for the PECMH Foundation by over $2,000! It’s always so wonderful to work with our residents who have spent countless hours on this. A big thanks to our committee members, residents and all of the local businesses who have contributed time and auction items to make our efforts a success.”
Having been a donor to PECMHF for five years now, the Wellings of Picton’s cumulative giving totals to $29,450, earning the Wellings of Picton a spot on the donor wall at the Benefactor level for gifts over $25,000.
Total amount given from the Wellings of Picton to the Back the Build campaign equals $12,825.
This gift will be used to help lift the spirits of the PECMHF’s Back the Build campaign, as the residents continue to support the building of a new hospital in Prince Edward County.
“The residents group that came together from the Wellings to make this gift in support of the Back the Build campaign speaks to the importance of community involvement and the impact it has on the quality of life for those residing and visiting our County,” said Shannon Coull, executive director of the PECMHF. “We are so grateful for the support shown to us by the residents living at the Wellings of Picton and their keen interest in the future of Prince Edward County Memorial Hospital.”
