The hit maritime film knocked Taylor Swift’s Eras tour film out of the running at the Charlottetown Cineplex when it debuted there earlier this month. It’s coming to the Regent Theatre this Sunday. And there’s a County connection.
Chris Locke stars as bumbling Private Investigator Larry Constable in Who’s Yer Father? (level FILM/63 Lights movie still)
Who’s Yer Father tells the tale of a happy-go-lucky Prince Edward Island Private Investigator who stumbles and bumbles his way through a case of lobster smuggling. Larry Constable (Chris Locke) is PEI’s only PI — and not a very good one.
He teams up with a slightly more competent store clerk, Rhonda Perry (Susan Kent), and together the two uncover something sinister.
Zany characters and “down east” authenticity result in a hilarious film that is only gaining in popularity as it moves west.
Writer and Director Jeremy Larter is a PEI native who now lives in Prince Edward County. He sees some distinct similarities between the two island communities.
“We are excited to bring this film to the Regent. In a lot of ways, PEC is like PEI — there are some familiar and relatable themes,” Mr. Larter told the Gazette.
Both stars, Locke and Kent, are well known from their work for CBC televeision comedy shows (Baroness von Sketch Show and This Hour Has 22 Minutes). The film also features Jess Salgueiro (Frasier, Working Moms), Tiio Horn (Letterkenny, Reservation Dogs) and Steve Lund (Schitt’s Creek).
Tickets are $10 and Mr. Larter will participate in a Q&A afterwards.
Showtime is 7 p.m. Sunday 26 November. Advance tickets can be purchased at https://www.theregenttheatre.org/movies
