Upwards of 300 people were in attendance at an ice oval on Upper Lake Street on Sunday as ‘Lake Hennessy’ was scene of the first annual Winter Freeze, an ATV and Dirt Bike race event.

Organizer Andrew Hennessy who is typically found racing his way to victory every Saturday at Brighton Speedway turned in his dirt track expertise to host a series of races featuring two wheel and four wheel off road vehicles on a frozen pond on his family’s property.

With Prince Edward Fire and Rescue members in attendance to ensure everyone’s saftey, a total of 27 racers from all over Eastern Ontario showed up to take part.

“We were thrilled with the turnout from the public and everyone seemed to have a great time so we are planning on making this a regular event,” Hennessy told the Gazette. “We hope to add ice bikes next season.”

Picton’s Matt Crawford was the overall winner in the 4×4 ATV non studded class while Barry’s Bay native John Rumleskie took the 2wd open feature. Hennessy wished to thank Steve’s Sport of Picton, Motosports of Trenton, County tire , Hudson’s diagnostic & repairs & Vinyl solution signs and graphics for supporting the event.

TOP FEATURE- John Rumleskie of Barry’s Bay was the top winner in the 2wd class.
