It is with the heaviest of hearts that we share the sudden passing of Laurel Elizabeth Woodward, a beloved mother, sister, aunt, and lifelong friend. After a brief battle with cancer, Laurel succumbed to unexpected complications, passing on August 10, 2021, at the age of 62. Laurel was born in Kingston, Ontario on July 22, 1959. The youngest child of the Fred and Billie McGlade family, she is survived by her sister Maralee Maughan (Ossie) of Kingston, and brother Tom McGlade (Susan) of Kingston. Laurel’s love and adoration for her siblings, nieces, nephews, and great nephews will forever be undeniable. A true free spirit, Laurel prioritized a career prior to family life, dedicating 40 years as a Residential Counsellor in the Prince Edward County and Hastings region. She fell in love with her work at Prince Edward Heights, and later pursued a position through the community based, not for profit agency, Pathways to Independence. Laurel gained many close knit and lifelong friendships throughout her work, while additionally meeting, and eventually marrying John Woodward of Prince Edward County. John and Laurel joyfully welcomed Emma Cassandra (August 8, 1996) and Cody James (August 5, 1999) into the world. Laurel dedicated her life to her work and her kiddos, instilling both of her children with kindness, acceptance, and resiliency, right up until her last moments on this earth. Laurel was known to be the life of any party, whilst having the empathy to extend a hand to mere strangers. Her fiery character, her boldness, and raw humour have provided countless stories for anyone that spent even minimal time with her. In her last weeks of life, Laurel shone so bright. She successfully held the position of “Birthday Girl,” entertaining a room of 25 close friends on July 22nd. She went on two cottage retreats with family, she experienced an evening out at the Miller House with old girlfriends, She had the pleasure of finally meeting her two great nephews, both Covid born babies, and she even rode in a Tesla. Amazingly, Laurel stood with dear friend Marianne Rogers, as her maid of honour on July 25th. Eagerly and fortunately, she celebrated both of her children’s birthdays alongside them in her final week. Laurel lost herself in her love for cooking, baking, and crafts, incredibly cooking a roast and crafting yet another furniture piece in her final hours. So typical of her. Laurels presence will always remain with those that knew and loved her. The family will hold a celebration of life in the coming weeks. A date will be announced once plans are officially arranged.
