The Picton Pirates came unglued on Thursday night and a lack of discipline was all the visiting Frankford Huskies needed to skate off winners in the lone game the locals will play this week.

The Pups would fire three power play volleys in a 6-2 game that saw Picton skate with the opposition when the contest was played at five skaters aside.

But for the Pirates (8-9-1), there are these dastardly special-teams opportunities and the Huskies made great hay with them Thursday.

Dylan Foster would stake Frankford to a 1-0 lead at the 7:06 mark as Ryan Turney was able to hold the blue line on a Picton curling attempt and a juicy rebound landed on the Huskies goal scorer’s stick.

The Pirates would take a penalty not long after and Carrying Place’s Keenan Wiles would tap home his 11th of the campaign at 8:29.

Down a pair into the second stanza, the Pirates would carve the Frankford lead in half as Nick Kirby stripped the puck off a Huskies defender in the neutral zone and go top shelf on Dean Spry at 1:15.

Picton’s momentum was short lived however as Mr. Wiles would spot Gage Butcher cutting to the net at the 2:05 mark to establish Frankford’s two goal cushion.

The Pirates would again get within a goal when Rheydan McCoy would send Cole Stevenson along the boards on a partial breakaway and the Quinte West native went high glove side at 10:59 to make it a 3-2 game.

The Pirates had their chances in the period, sending 14 pucks Mr. Spry’s way and Picton nearly tied things up on more than one occasion.

But Picton took themselves out of the running in the third with penalties. Ty McCambridge would fire a pair of power play markers over the first ten minutes of the frame and then County natives Riley Grimmon and Ben Smith combined for a goal inside the last five minutes to make it a 6-2 final.

The Pirates are at home to Amherstview on Thursday and then travel to Port Hope on Saturday.
