March 7

Três Pássaros (Three Birds) is a new project by Karl Silveira, making one of its first appearances at Drake Devonshire. “Pássaros,” meaning birds in Brazilian Portuguese, is a deliberate choice to evoke the imagery of three birds harmonizing their melodies together. It also serves as a nod to the nickname of the renowned Jazz musician Charlie Parker, known as “Bird.” This is meant to connect Jazz and Brazilian music traditions, both of which will prominently influence the music. The Pássaros Trio endeavours to explore innovative ways of bridging the rich musical legacies of the past with the immediacy of the contemporary world. The music will feature intricate and lush textures, as well as deep and nuanced grooves in chamber music type of setting. The band includes Karl Silveira on trombone, Andre Valerio on guitar, and Aidan McConnell on drums and percussion.
Thursday, March 7 at 5:30pm, at Drake Devonshire (The Pavillion Room), 24 Wharf Street, Wellington
