Details

From Picton to the World is a special homecoming concert celebrating the life and legacy of Picton-born composer, conductor, and arts leader Gena Branscombe (1881–1977). Gena Branscombe went on to build an international career at a time when women’s musical voices were often overlooked.

This event brings her music back to the place where her musical journey began. Featuring Canadian performers and works set to texts by Canadian poets, the program includes newly restored pieces reconstructed from original manuscripts – many of which have not been heard for decades. A highlight of the concert will be the 21st-century Canadian premiere of an excerpt from Branscombe’s unfinished work Bells of Circumstance and a audience sing-a-long portion to some of Gena's revived songs including "Our Canada from Sea to Sea" led by conductor, Dan Ryan.

More than a concert, this is a celebration of history, community, and artistic restoration. Audiences are invited to meet the musicians and organizers, view rare historical artifacts.

Presented by The Gena Branscombe Project with many local partners this event reflects an ongoing commitment to preserving musical history, uplifting overlooked voices, and bringing extraordinary stories back to life through performance.
